More than 60 heavy operations, including arrests, finding of weapons and ammunition, are the result of the operation that the soldiers of the Fifth Brigade of Colombian National Army have been carrying out against this organized armed group, positively impacting the security of the Magdalena Medio region.
As part of the operations framed in the Ayacucho Plan, troops of the Fifth Brigade, within the framework of joint, coordinated and inter-institutional military operations with the National Navy, the National Police and the Attorney General's Office, have been obtaining results against the organized armed group, GAO, Clan del Golfo, producing the weakening of this structure in the department of Santander and, mainly, the region of the Middle Magdalena region.
So far this year there have been more than 60 strikes against this group, including 51 arrests in flagrante delicto and by court order; the recovery of 6 minors, the death in the framework of military operations of 2 members and the surrender to justice of 6 of its members. The people arrested are mostly related to crimes such as extortion against productive groups and homicides.
In the same way, the military operations left at the moment the finding of 19 short-range firearms, 9 long-range, more than 3000 ammunition of different calibers and the finding of 2 illegal hiding places with which they intended to attack civilians and the Military Forces.
In the same way, cash, cell phones and communications equipment have been found, weakening their criminal operations and the procurement of war material used in criminal acts.
With these results, Colombian National Army, in a joint, coordinated and interinstitutional way, is constant in its territorial control operations to provide security as the basis for the development, prosperity and well-being of the inhabitants, weakening the structure of the Clan del Golfo, which has its criminal operations in the Middle Magdalena, neutralizing the execution of terrorist acts that attack the good physical condition and the security of the communities in this region and Santander people in general.
