Spain. In a coordinated operation conducted by units of the National Navy and members of the Technical Investigation Corps of the Attorney General's Office, with the cooperation of the Spanish Government, against the transnational drug trafficking organizations that commit crimes in the Gulf of Urabá and Spain, approximately nine tons of cocaine hydrochloride were found and five members of the international network responsible for receiving the drug in Europe were captured.
The operation was carried out in the port of Algeciras - Spain, after the National Navy alerted the European authorities about the arrival of a container with the illicit cargo, aboard the Singapore ship "Lucie Schulte", which had left 15 days ago the Gulf of Urabá in Antioquia, where drug trafficking organizations contaminated an export bananas container.
The cocaine belonged to a drug trafficking structure associated with the Organized Armed Group known as " Clan del Golfo", which has contacts in several European ports.
This result prevents more than 470 million euros, value of the alkaloid on the European black market, from entering the finances of this illegal group.
This great finding is part of a continuous work of Naval Intelligence and the judicial process against the drug trafficking structures, which has led to, among others, the discovery of 5.8 tons of cocaine in November 2017 in Algeciras -Spain, and the finding of 5.3 tons in the municipality of Turbo, last March, 2018.
The National Navy will continue to conduct the transnational operations coordinated with authorities of other countries or in maritime agreements, against the drug trafficking organizations and the sources of the Organized Armed Groups in Colombia, mainly the “Clan del Golfo”, to counteract international crimes, guaranteeing the security and tranquility of Colombians.
