Officials of the General Maritime Directorate contribute with the analysis and the identification of the possible biological, physical and chemical pressures on the environment and the ecosystem.
Valle del Cauca. The General Maritime Directorate, Dimar, participated, in Cali, in the national technical workshop "Identification of uses and pressures on the Pacific coast and pilot area", during the regional project Information and Data Network of the South Pacific for the support to the Integrated Management of the Coastal Area, SPINCAM, in English.
The SPINCAM regional project has been carried out in phases. The first two were carried out over a period of 10 years and led to the establishment of the framework for indicators of integrated management of coastal areas for the national and regional level in the Southeast Pacific (Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Panama and Peru), the state of the coastal and marine environment was prioritized, as well as its socioeconomic conditions; it is an aspect in which Dimar provided relevant information for these indicators.
Currently, in the third phase, Dimar officials contribute with the analysis and identification of the possible biological, physical and chemical pressures to the environment and the ecosystem, due to anthropic conditions or due to different dynamics of the natural cycle. Mining aspects, undue occupation, ports development or uncontrolled shipyards, invasive species, among others, were considered; all of this in the pilot study area in the municipalities of Guapi, in Cauca, and Iscuandé in Nariño.
The methodology implemented by the professionals of Dimar, through the use of matrices, has the objective of supporting the decision making of the different actors of the study area in the Colombian Pacific.
Within this exercise, each participating institution will be responsible for continuing with the contribution of indicators to feed these matrices and future technical and follow-up discussions that will be studied in future workshops.
The workshop was led by the Institute of Marine and Coastal Research José Benito Vives de Andrés (Invemar) and the Directorate of Marine Affairs, Coastal and Aquatic Resources (Damcra) of the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development. The Center for Oceanographic and Hydrographic Research of the Pacific and the Port Authority de Guapi, of Dimar were present.
