In the ceremony of departure of the ship ARC '20 de Julio' that takes the V Colombian Scientific Expedition to Antarctica, the President of the Republic, Iván Duque, highlighted the capacities of the Corporation of Science and Technology for the Naval Maritime and Fluvial Industry (Cotecmar), who built with national talent this boat that travels for the fourth time to the white continent.
"This ship is built with the technology and capabilities of Cotecmar, an institution created to have the country’s best engineers designing ships with full defensive capabilities, operations, exploratory and interdiction capacities," said President Duque.
At the Great Malecón of the Magdalena River in Barranquilla, the president highlighted that Cotecmar, with only 18 years of creation, has built more than 120 ships of different depth, not only for the National Navy but in the same way for the civil market and has even exported two of its designs to Honduras and Brazil.
"It is an institution that has gained recognition in Latin America and has led countries such as Honduras to recently acquire protection capabilities of their territory with this Colombian technology," said the President, who was accompanied by the Minister of Defense. Guillermo Botero.
