Every December 10, the world commemorates Human Rights Day on the occasion of the date when the General Assembly of the UN adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, in 1948.
This year the United Nations commemorates the seventieth (70th) anniversary of the aforementioned Declaration, which is why it was launched a campaign that highlights the transcendence of this historic document that proclaimed the inalienable and inherent rights of all human beings, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, language, political or other opinions, national or social origin, property, place of birth, or any other condition.
On the occasion of the commemoration of Human Rights Day, the Military Forces reiterate their constant commitment to the fulfillment of the mission, strengthening the principles of transparency, legitimacy and security in the preparation, planning, execution, evaluation and monitoring of all military operations. For this reason, the Colombian military forces are permanently training officers, NCOs, Soldiers and Civilians of the National Army, National Navy, Colombian Air Force, leaving 64,758 people trained, as follows: 53,185 of the National Army, 1,964 of the National Navy, and 9,609 of the Colombian Air Force.
In the framework of the National Day of Human Rights in Colombia, on September 9, the Military Forces consolidated the celebration in one big date, carrying out two important activities:
The first of these was the Military Joint Ceremony for the Military Medal 'General José Hilario López Valdés', in recognition of the personnel of the Security forces, personnel of institutions, organizations and National and International institutions that stood out in professional efforts to promote Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law.
This ceremony organized by the General Command of the Military Forces took place on September 10 at the Teatro Patria in the city of Bogotá DC, with support of the National Army, National Navy, Colombian Air Force, National Police and coordination of the Rights Directorate Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law - Institutional Legal Staff of the Military Forces
In the same way, the General Command of the Military Forces, through the Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law Directorate of the Sub-division of Institutional Juridical General Staff, carried out for the first time an Inter-branches Competition and Universities in Human Rights on issues related to International Humanitarian Law and Operations Law, carried out in the main auditorium of the Military University 'Nueva Granada'.
The contest counted on the participation of students of the Externado de Colombia University sponsored by the National Army, Santo Tomas University sponsored by the National Navy, Military University 'Nueva Granada' sponsored by the Colombian Air Force and University of La Sabana sponsored by the Police National. The teams that resolved questions about Human Rights, a subject that has become the cornerstone of military institutions, translating into new challenges to respond to the National context, enhancing the successes achieved and motivating generations to overcome the new challenges on the path to peace.
The winners of the aforementioned contest were the four participants of the 'New Granada' Military University and their sponsor of the Colombian Air Force, who were awarded with five certified scholarships for the National Security and Defense Orientation course (CODENAL) in the Superior War College in 2019.
