Riachuelo and its eight hamlets, benefited from a community work in the frame of the program Mi Vereda Modelo, which led to a road improvement and in record time.
Soldiers of the Artillery Battalion No. 5 'Capitan José Antonio Galán' of the Fifth Brigade, of the Second Division, through the programs “Mi Vereda Modelo”, “Fe en Colombia”, “I am Santander”, arrived at the Riachuelo municipality, in Charalá, in the department of Santander, where by means of a joint work, the construction in record time of 300 meters of plaques took place on the main road that contacts the urban area of the municipality.
The works began with contributions of the Victims' Reparation Unit and the management of the Municipal Administration and the Personería, which led to an investment of about 200 million pesos in materials, heavy machinery and skilled labor to direct the work. On the other hand, the constant work of 32 soldiers and the support of the inhabitants of the sector, made possible the construction in four sections of approximately 50, 70 and 90 meters, to improve considerably the access to this important road. The work was finished in only 23 days approximately.
The technical characteristics of the roads provide easy access of large and small vehicles. Each section has 90 cm traces, an amplitude of 4 meters with 50 centimeters and in curves it was extended to five meters wide, which not only favors the mobility and transport of personnel, but in the same way is the key to promote tourism and trade in products such as coffee, the main economic activity and sustenance of the region, favoring more than 1,300 inhabitants of this area.
The municipality of Riachuelo, formed by eight hamlets, was epicenter in previous years of the criminal acts of outlaw armed groups, therefore, one of the objectives of these tasks is to rebuild the social fabric, recovering hope and restoring the trust of the community towards the State, the Military Forces and other institutions.
