A fire that initiated last Wednesday in the San Antonio de Prado municipality of the city of Medellín, is controlled by the Colombian Air Force, by means of a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter of the Air Combat Command No. 5, equipped with the Bambi Bucket system, specialized in the control of forest fires, which has made the water dumping of 6,200 gallons of water with retardant liquid to control the conflagration that has already consumed about 10 hectares of forest.
In coordination with the National Risk Management Unit -UNGR and the different aid agencies of the capital of Antioquia, a unified effort is made to preserve the natural resources in this area of Antioquia, as well as generate awareness of the use of balloons with wick and the realization of controlled burnings.
The Air Force is prepared with highly qualified personnel and technological equipment to serve the municipalities of the department that are in fire alert for the phenomenon of El Niño and reach no matter where in the country where its support is required.
