Nine members of the group were captured and will have to answer to the authorities for conspiracy to commit crimes and aggravated extortion.
Troops of the Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) Cundinamarca, attached to the Brigade 13 of the National Army, with the support of the Military Police Battalion No.13 and the Technical Investigation Corps of the Attorney General's Office, dismantle the criminal group 'Monaco' which was continuously extorting money of several citizens residing in the center of the country.
Through intelligence and monitoring work it was possible to establish the modus operandi of the group and capture nine of its members in different areas of the capital, the individuals were responsible for carrying out specific activities such as extortion, theft and fraud against merchants, drivers and employees in Bogotá and in different municipalities of Cundinamarca.
This criminal structure intimidated its victims through death threats if they refused to pay the money demanded through the extortion; payments had to be made personally.
According to the victims, the ‘Monaco’ made money demands ranging from one million to 20 million pesos; its main area of interference was the municipality of Suba, in Bogotá.
