The community of Vista Hermosa, in the department of Meta, is benefiting of the results of humanitarian demining presented by the Battalion of Humanitarian Demining Engineers No. 4, The Alto Guapaya village, an area with suspicion of antipersonnel mines was cleared.
The extension of the cleared land declared free of suspicion of antipersonnel mines in the Alto Guapaya village is 14,918 square meters, this terrain was cleared using the manual demining technique.
This constant work of the mine clearance specialists began on November 15 of 2017 and ended on April 13 of the current year. Being days of hard work for the mine clearance specialists due to the conditions of the terrain and the weather and thanks to the effort and dedication, they check the zone centimeter by centimeter.
Now, the family that owns the property and the surrounding community will be able to travel quietly; in the same way, expand their plantations without fear. So, 10 families, made up of 87 people of the sector, are benefiting from this work of the bicentenary heroes.
With this presentation of the decontaminated area with an extension of 14,918 square meters, there are 14 polygonal areas that have been presented in the rural area of Vista Hermosa, using different techniques, such as manual and mechanical demining technique. 137,872 square meters are now free of contamination.
The humanitarian demining units continue with their valuable operation in the area, to liberate the territory, where to date, 15 explosive devices have been destroyed honoring their motto "Our Mission is to Save Lives."
