The Air Combat Command No. 7 of the Colombian Air Force in Santiago de Cali, carried out a large operation to support the work of extinguishing a large-scale forest fire, which began on Thursday, August 15, 2019, in the sector of Guabinas, municipality of Yumbo, in the department of Valle del Cauca.
From the Marco Fidel Suarez Air Base, CACOM-7 a Black Hawk UH-60L helicopter with Bambi Bucket system was sent to help control the fires that occurred in the Guabinas sector. In this mission troops flew seven hours and 22,820 gallons of water with retarding liquid were dropped.
It is noteworthy the work conducted by the Colombian Air Force, and the fire department of Yumbo, who thanks to the installation and permanent supply of water in a special pool for this type of missions in the sector, counteract the conflagration, preventing major environmental and material losses.
