In a military ceremony presided over by Colonel Germán Albarracín Cordero, Chief of Staff of the Navy Infantry Training Base and following all biosecurity protocols established by the pandemic because of COVID-19, the command of the Coveñas Coast Guard Station was replaced.
Accompanied by the military authorities of the garrison and the crew of the coast Guard Station Coveñas, captain Octavio Humberto Gutierrez Herrera, Commander of coast Guard in the Caribbean, accompanied the transition of lieutenant commander David Fernando Rodriguez Baron, who had held the position for a period of one year, and will serve as instructor of the UN in the Training Center for Peace Operations – CENCOPAZ. He handed over the Command of the coast Guard Station Coveñas, to lieutenant Luz Perla González Silva.
The new commander, who was promoted to the rank of Corvette captain at the Naval Cadet School Admiral Padilla, will be the first woman to assume command of this unit that depends on the Caribbean Naval Force.
The main mission of the Coveñas Coast Guard Station is to ensure the defense, security and interests of the nation in the jurisdictional maritime areas through maritime surveillance and control operations, operations to combat drug trafficking and safeguard human life at sea, with the aim of contributing to the maintenance of internal order, good territorial condition and the progress of the maritime sector.
