In order to revive the economy of the farmers of the South of Bolívar, the Joint Task Force MARTE and the program Fe en Colombia (Faith in Colombia) in coordination with the Rural Development Agency (ADR), The Secretariat of Agriculture of the department of Bolívar, Municipality of Santa Rosa del Sur, National Service of Learning (SENA), Colombian Agricultural and livestock Institute (ICA) and Development Programs with Territorial Approach (PDET), held the first Regional farmers Market.
The sold products were the result of participation of 30 micro-enterprises which provided coffee, Cacao, dairy, and handicrafts. In the same way, Boards of Community operation in the rural area, promoted food products such as tamales, arepas, sweets, breads, etc., it Is important to note that with this initiative it was possible to benefit around 1200 people and at the end of the event the Rural Development Agency reports sales by $ 7 900 800 pesos.
“This first peasant market is a significant sample of what we have in our region, what we produce, what our great ventures are, and in one way what our people have been carried out over time," said the mayor of Santa Rosa de Sur, Bolivar.
