The commitment of the Colombian Navy with the security and wellbeing of the inhabitants of the municipalities of the Pacific coast, in the departments of Chocó, Valle del Cauca and Cauca, is showed in the different operational results obtained by the Brigade of Navy Infantry No.2, against the different outlaw groups that commit crimes in this area of the country, as well as in the contribution to social development through non-armed effort.
During 2020, about three thousand men and women were deployed in the maritime, river and coastal places, providing to its inhabitants an environment of security and tranquility for economic, social and cultural activities.
Thus, in 2020, it was possible to seize about 10 tons of cocaine hydrochloride. In the same way, during operations against the different Organized Armed Groups, Residual Organized Armed Groups, Organized Criminal Groups and drug trafficking organizations, the Navy Infantry Brigade No.2, seized five semi-submarines and approximately seven tons of marijuana.
During the year, this operating unit captured 139 members of these groups, such as: alias Mama Daisy, who coordinated extortion activities in Buenaventura and who also was the mother of alias Robert, the head of the Organized Gang La Compañia; alias Alipio, the alleged head of finances of the Organized Gang Banda Local and who would also be the link with the residual Organized Armed Group 30; alias James, alleged ringleader of a transnational criminal organization, who sent narcotic substances and weapons from the Pacific to Central America; alias Chitoto and alias Salomón, the alleged ringleaders of the Néstor Tulio Duran company of the Organized Armed Group ELN that commits crimes in the department of Chocó.
The operation and commitment of the tactical units deployed on the coast, led to the seizure of more than USD $230,000, 144 weapons, about 14,000 ammunition of different calibers, 896 kilograms of explosives, 147 communication equipment, 4 tons of food, more than six tons of solid supplies, more than 23,000 gallons of liquid supplies and 25 gallons of fuel. It was also found and destroyed 187 illegal infrastructures and 47 laboratories for the production of hallucinogenic substances.
