Countering the criminal operation of the Residual Organized Armed Group (GAO-r) Estructura Primera, soldiers prevented a possible case of identity theft, in which outlaw individuals would have been trying to impersonate units of the National Police, and thus achieve terrorist attacks, kidnappings and extortion.
Within the framework of Operation José María Córdova, the Command of the Twenty-Second Jungle Brigade of the Fourth Division of the National Army, complying the constitutional mission, seized a large number of equipment, apparently belonging to the National Police, which -according to military intelligence- would be used by members of the Residual GAO Estructura Primera to supplant members of that institution.
The military operation took place in the village Guanapalo, municipality of San José del Guaviare, in the department of Guaviare, where soldiers of the Infantry Battalion No.19 General Joaquín París, found an illegal hideout in the middle of the jungle with 16 uniforms in it, and also other institutional elements such as T-shirts, caps, belts, harness, campaign equipment and rifle magazines. It should be noted that this type of material is for the exclusive use of the Military Forces, so it is classified as a crime.
Brigadier General Giovanni Rodríguez León, Commander of the Twenty-Second Jungle Brigade, praised the progress that military intelligence has achieved and said that: “More and more military units are being trained in the use of conventional tools. This year, military intelligence has achieved a breakthrough in both technology and training and more results are coming. We are working to confront those who try to disrupt law and order in the region. We are ready to continue with territorial control to neutralize illegal activities: the main interest of the Fourth Division Command.”
