The Organized Crime Group (GDO) Fénix, through its criminal activities, which mainly affected minors, generated monthly profits of USD $17,000.
Intelligence of the Fernando Landazábal Reyes Artillery Battalion and the Urban Special Forces Group No.5, attached to the Thirteenth Brigade of the National Army, in coordination with the Technical Investigation Corps of the Attorney General's Office, captured five members of a recognized Organized Crime Group (GDO) Fénix, which trafficked drugs from the departments of Caquetá, Boyacá and Santander.
After almost a year of investigations, troops carried out raids in the districts of Engativá and Suba, in Bogotá, as well as in the rural area of San José de Pare, in the department of Boyacá, where a Councilor of that municipality was captured. During the operation, 22 kilos of coca-based paste –valued at approximately USD $31,000–, USD $4,875 in cash, a 38-millimeter shotgun with seven ammunition and a digital precision scale were seized.
In the hearings before the Municipal Criminal Judge 67 of the Attorney’s Office, was legitimized the capture for the crimes of association to commit crimes, aggravated trafficking, manufacture or carrying narcotic drug and manufacture, traffic or possession of firearms, accessories or ammunition. The charges were not accepted by the individuals.
However, the Attorney’s Office issued a detention order, which was endorsed by the court.
With this result, the National Army, through the Thirteenth Brigade, neutralized a gang that particularly affected children and adolescents in the districts of Engativá and Suba.
