The multipurpose hydrographic ship ARC Caribe with a crew of 38 sailors continues to transport humanitarian aid and support material for the reconstruction phase of Providencia and Santa Catalina, completing 357 tons transported from Cartagena to the island area.
Food, tools, vehicles, metal structures and construction materials of the public and private sectors, are part of the cargo it carries on, in order to improve the quality of life of the island and Raizal inhabitants hit by the Hurricane Iota.
The Navy of Colombia has sent several maritime units since the start of the Operation Renacer, as the ARC Caribbean, ARC Malpelo, ARC Roncador, ARC Golfo de Urabá, ARC Almirante Tono, ARC Almirante Padilla, ARC Antioquia and the ARC Independiente, with the highest standards of quality, science and technology, with search and rescue teams, naval constructions, diving equipment and salvage, hydrographs, oceanographers, to safeguard human life at sea, to provide maritime security and support to thousands of inhabitants of the department Archipelago.
This unit, attached to the Caribbean Oceanographic and hydrographic research center, CIOH, of the General Maritime Directorate, DIMAR, has the mission of support scientific research operations, maritime rescue, cargo transportation, humanitarian assistance and research work in the Caribbean and Colombian Pacific basins.
