The command of the eighteenth Brigade, military unit of the Eighth Division of the National Army, on facts that are subject to Investigation, regrets to inform:
1. According to the first reports, armed men killed our soldier Elkin Fabian Arévalo Barahona, of the Mechanized Cavalry Group No.18, who, at the time of the events, was in the capital city of the Department of Arauca in a state of defenselessness, enjoying a special permission for the birth of his son.
2. Armed individuals on a motorcycle reportedly approached the man, who was in a public establishment, in the Miramar neighborhood. Once the facts took place, the National Army, in coordination with the Judicial Investigation Section of the Arauca Municipality Police, initiated the pertinent investigations to clarify the motives and perpetrators of this homicide.
3. Our soldier (R. I. P.), born in the municipality of Arauca, had been in the institution for 11 years and had several decorations; in 2020 he was awarded as the best anti-explosion technician of the National Army.
4. This command sends a heartfelt message of condolences to his relatives and loved ones, accompanying them in their grief for this regrettable loss.
