Prevention is the strategy with which the 32 Military Gaula groups prepare Colombians so that they can prevent the risk of the crimes of kidnapping and extortion.
Thus, through its campaign I do not pay I denounce, conducted throughout the National Geography, this special group of men made in the last month 1,769 activities alluding to self-care invitation to denounce these two crimes on toll-free line 147.
With the dissemination of prevention in 6,104 checkpoints in strategic places with line 147 and the contact numbers of the military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) in each region, 136 workshops have taken place along with 1,056 activities of Presence plan and checkpoints, supporting security at the borders; troops have also made 3,262 radio spots that seek to generate awareness about immediate denunciation, 81,976 brochures have been distributed and Decalogue of security with the steps to follow in case of extortive calls and 218 loudspeakers activities, day and night, people have been trained, expanding the message every day.
It is worth noting that in the activities the Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) men emphasize the most common forms of extortion, which are currently the most used by criminals:
The prison call: calls made by inmates of Prisons, choosing phones at random and in which they pretend to be members of organized armed groups, requesting deposits in accounts and money transfers. In this mode, if given the opportunity, verbal aggressions are increasingly heavier.
The fake service: they request a service (it can be Ambulance, funeral support, heater repair, cranes and job offers. Workers are summoned in remote areas with little telephone signal coverage. They are held and then individuals call employers or family members and demand money in exchange for their release. It is clear that the pandemic has increased this crime.
Sexting: they use the intimate photos that have been shared on WhatsApp and social networks. In most cases the victims are young people, who have been contacted by strangers and after several conversations ask for intimate photos or wearing little clothing. They call them and ask for money in exchange for not telling their parents, so they get scared and make the payments. It should be noted that photos are often shared at the time they use wifi in shopping centers, supermarkets and public areas, which makes security more vulnerable.
Social networks: they use Facebook and Instagram profiles photos and make digital modifications in which they accuse them of being rapists, pedophiles, thieves and others, demanding sums of money in exchange for not turning those images viral.
Therefore, for the military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group), it is essential that more and more citizens become familiar with line 147 and that they know they can receive advice and accompaniment in the face of these crimes that threaten the freedom and goods of Colombians.
They in the same way call on young people to be cautious and be on alert on social networks, online games and phone calls, to look for help with their parents, because if they pay a first extortion no matter how small, the chances of repeat it, will always be latent.
