Coast Guard units of the Colombian Navy, attached to the specific command of San Andrés and Providencia, rescued five Colombian citizens, who shipwrecked in the waters of the Bay of San Andrés isla, when the rudimentary boat in which they were traveling turned due to an entrance of water in the hull.
The operation began once the emergency call was received of the Maritime Traffic Control Tower, giving timely notice to the Coast Guard units of San Andrés about the overturning of the rudimentary called Watch Me with the five people.
Immediately, a Rapid Reaction Unit –URR - of the Coast Guard that carried out Patrol and maritime traffic control tasks in the Cotton Cay sector, moved to the emergency site providing assistance to the people, and later towed the boat to the beach area in the Los Almendros sector.
The Colombian Navy, through the Caribbean Naval Force, will continue to carry out maritime patrols that safeguard human life at sea, with its naval units and human talent to ensure comprehensive maritime security in the waters of the archipelago of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina, while inviting the community of sailors to implement maritime safety standards, especially the use of life jackets and review of communications equipment, as well as to report any emergency through line 146 or Channel 16 VHF available 24 hours a day.
