Soldiers of Infantry Battalion No.41 General Rafael Reyes Prieto, of the Fifth Brigade, of the Second Division, with the support of the Colombian Air Force, the Attorney General's Office, the National Mining Agency and the National Environmental Licensing Agency, find and destroy machinery and different elements used for deforestation and deterioration of the environment through the crime of illegal exploitation of mining sites, in the municipality of San Bartolo, in the municipality of Yondó, Antioquia.
Thanks to this coordinated work, three open pit mining fronts were found and a backhoe was confiscated and as well as five dredges, 11 Diesel engines and four motor pump, which they got about five kilograms of gold per month of the river San Bartolomé, that would cost an estimated cost of 500 million pesos, which allegedly favoured the subsystem of the Edgar Amilkar Grimaldos Baron front of the Organised Armed Group, GAO, ELN.
In the same way, it is estimated that with this illegal activity about 10 square hectares were hit with a cost of recovery close to one billion pesos and 10 to 30 years in reparation of the impact generated by this illegal operation.
This operation reduces the capacity of the GAO ELN to finance terrorist plans that attack the physical condition of civilians and Military Forces, neutralizing their criminal operations and safeguarding the water sources of the region that supply more than 150 families in the sector. In the same way, the National Army reaffirms its commitment to continue working in a coordinated and constant manner to counteract the different factors of instability that commit crimes in the country.
