On the occasion of the IV edition of the Political Dialogues between NATO and Colombia, Ambassador Carlos Arturo Morales, Deputy Minister of Multilateral Affairs (in charge) accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Defense, Sandra Alzate, led the dialogue with the Under-Secretary General for Political Security Affairs of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Ambassador Bettina Cadenbach.
The meeting highlighted the importance of Colombia as it is the only global partner of the region and also the common values that they share and that have led to strengthening the bilateral relationship, in addition to noting that Colombia will be the first country to adopt the Partnership Program design to each Global Partner (Individual Tailored Partnership Programme – ITPP).
Colombia expressed its interest in continuing to share its experience and contribute its resources to NATO member countries. Likewise, it was announced the intention of the Minister of Defense, Diego Molano, to make an official visit to Brussels to continue developing the common agenda, which includes the inclusion of issues associated with climate change and the actions carried out by the Colombian security Forces in the protection of the environment, as a strategic asset of the nation.
The Organization said the professionalism of the Colombian Military Forces and the commitment they have undertaken in the development of the Integrity Building Program, to make Colombia a regional reference able to open the way, through good practices, processes and methodologies, for other countries to strengthen Integrity, transparency and accountability.
At the end of the Political Dialogue, a NATO 2030 academic panel: "Visions and perspectives for the next decade" was held, in which Ambassador Cadenbach participated, where the central subject was the NATO 2030 reflection process and the contributions that Colombia, from an academic perspective, in the regional context, can contribute in this strategic partnership with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
