The General Fernando Melgar award of the Inter-American Academy of the American Air Forces (IAAFA) was awarded to two members of the Colombian Air Force, Ensign Valeria Sierra Cano of the Military Aviation School Marco Fidel Suárez in Officer category and Student Darly Contreras Parada, of the School of Noncommissioned Officers CT. Andrés M. Díaz in non-commissioned officer category.
The students excelled in an exceptional way during their training, being worthy of the highest recognition of the IAAFA, obtaining the best academic qualifications thanks to their outstanding leadership and military attitude, in front of representatives of other countries.
The ceremony, held in San Antonio, Texas, United States, was presided over by Lieutenant-General OBriend, who praised the inclusion of women in the military context at the hemispheric level, their decisions, their attitudes and the importance of generating situations of direct participation in strategic and operations issues.
The Colombian Air Force is proud of those two military women who have achieved such high distinctions, demonstrating the academic and military training given in the training schools of the Institution.
