These dangerous loads of high destructive power would have been installed by terrorists from the residual organized armed group of the Structure 10 Martín Villa.
Troops of the National Army found in a rural area of the municipality of Arauquita, in Arauca, 10 gas cylinders loaded with powerful explosives inside, which contained improvised munitions. The dangerous charges were apparently planted by terrorists of the residual Organized Armed Group, GAO-r, of the Tenth Structure Martin Villa.
The people, concerned about the threat posed by these devices, informed the military, who reached a road that is used daily by children, women and peasants in the municipality of La Unión. There the anti-explosive experts, after cordoning off the area and checking with technological equipment, found the deadly traps. After controlling the situation, and after analyzing the 10 cylinders, they discovered that the method of activation was by command cable, the devices were linked by detonating cord (rosary type) which would cause damages not only to one victim, but to several around, which would cause serious injuries, mutilations and even death.
According to the first investigations, the terrorists of the residual GAO of the Tenth Structure Martín Villa intended to attack the troops of the National Army that are in the area who, in recent days, have dealt heavy blows to the logistic and criminal networks of that group. For this reason, trying to stop the operation, the individuals would have planted the 10 cylinders loaded with explosives, regardless of the damage they could cause make to civilians.
The devices were neutralized under controlled conditions preventing collateral damage.
The National Army rejects the use of these deadly weapons, which becomes a flagrant violation of human rights and violation of international humanitarian law. In the same way, it will proceed in the coming hours to make the respective denunciations before the authorities.
During 2021, in the department of Arauca, the National Army has managed to find and destroy in 36 gas cylinder-type improvised explosive devices planted by organized armed groups.
