Researchers soldiers of the Colombian Air Force (FAC) carried out the second phase of the risk scenario for the air operation in the Antarctic, as well as a 3D model of the aerodrome Marambio, which operates as a bridge of connection between Argentina and Antarctica, in order to contribute to the scientific objectives for Antarctica proposed by the Nation, and thanks to the ability of the Institution to provide safe transportation, adequate and sustained, for the expeditions that the country may conduct.
Through the Aeronautical Education Headquarters of the FAC, the research project of the Air Navigation Services Directorate aimed to determine the Antarctic operational risks through the design of flight procedures, generation of orthophotographs and 3D models of the Marambio aerodrome, was formulated, seeking to prevent unwanted conditions for crews and aircraft, thus creating a teaching way that centralizes important information that all crew will know prior to any flight in the region.
The panoramas of risks are carried out for working with the safety of passengers and aircraft, and they are aligned to the different peculiarities of each aerodrome in specific. These are in the same way supported in other disciplines such as cartography aeronautics to the characterization and identification of the areas of movement and maneuvers in the different aerodromes, as well as the design of the approach procedure, all in favor of the safety in air operations.
The research will provide documents published and validated by the COLOMBIAN AIR FORCE that will contribute to the knowledge of the terrain by the crews that carry out Antarctic operations, supporting the scientific missions of the Nation and being leaders in air transport under high safety standards.
