The operation Plan against Extortion in places with the greatest loss, started on February 17 of this year, with the aim of establishing courses of operation to combat and reduce the effects of the crime of extortion and prevent kidnapping, has been implemented by the Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) through different activities such as civilians raising of awareness, door-to-door visits, with the support of local authorities, people and the media.
Thus, the departments of Chocó, Sucre, Boyacá, Meta, Valle, Huila, Putumayo, Norte de Santander, Santander and Buenaventura, have been permanently intervened by the Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) and about 42,043 have benefited.
To date, nearly 600 men of Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) run the different operations of the Plan, they have intervened 90 per cent of the municipalities mentioned above, through the prevention of direct and indirect activities counting on the local media as the radio stations in which they have conducted 25 lectures and spread 1,397 radio jingles, on social media accounts, for instance, 90 Twitter posts have been published, and national and regional newspapers have published 33 articles.
In the same way, and in coordination with the National Police and local authorities, during these two months they have distributed 23,429 brochures, conducted 39 workshops, trained 721 people, troops have conducted 269 door-to-door visits, have mounted 49 posts, and 3,267 posters alluding to the inter-institutional campaign Yo no pago, yo denuncio have been published and 52 loudspeaker activities have been conducted.
