During territorial and river control operations carried out jointly by the Colombian Navy and the National Army on the San Juan River, units belonging to the Barbudo River Task Group supported the labor of childbirth and subsequent evacuation of an indigenous woman of the Wounaan ethnic group belonging to the indigenous reserve of Chachajo.
The facts took place at approximately 08:00 pm, when members of the indigenous people approached the military unit to ask for help for the woman who had started labor and had severe abdominal pain; a team of military nurses was immediately deployed to help the woman who gave birth to a baby in good health.
After childbirth, and taking into account that in the area where a woman was no access to health services, troops conducted the evacuation waterway of the mother with her newborn and his grandmother, aboard a unit of the Navy of Colombia to Santa Genoveva of Docordó, the capital city of the Coast of San Juan, Chocó department, about 30 kilometres away of the indigenous reserve, where they were assisted in the municipal health.
