After the inauguration ceremony of President Gustavo Petro on Sunday afternoon in the Plaza de Bolívar, the new Minister of National Defense, Iván Velásquez Gómez, was in the same way named.
Minister Velásquez is a lawyer graduated from the University of Antioquia. He was prosecutor in Antioquia, an assistant magistrate in the Council of State, regional director of prosecutors in Medellín and a magistrate of the Supreme Court of Justice.
The minister of defense on his Twitter account, said that “Those of us who have lived with the dream of living with dignity in our immense homeland, have a lump in our throat today. Our excitement has no measure! For life, for peace, for justice, for democracy, for freedom, for dignity!”
President Petro, in his inaugural address to the new ministers, said that there will be many challenges for the ministries, that the revolution is with the people and also that this will be a permanent method.
