Within the framework of the Unified State action, the Colombian Navy accompanied by the National Army, the National Police, the Municipal Mayor's Office of Riosucio, the Commissioner of Family, the Colgate company, the Foundation Acción por Colombia y Corazón (Action for Colombia and Heart), the Governorates of Antioquia and department of Chocó, the Colombian Institute of Family Wellbeing – ICBF, and the Secretariat of Health, arrived in the municipality of Riosucio - department of Chocó in the River Ship ARC Guillermo Londoño, which sailed about 125 kilometers on the imposing Atrato River from Turbo – Antioquia, to start the campaign Sailing to the Heart of the Atrato and benefit these people.
On this occasion, the campaign led by the Colombian Navy provided well-being and comprehensive development to the communities of this municipality in the department of Chocó, where more than 1,400 people benefited from medical services, including nursing, gynecology, general medicine, internal medicine, nutrition, dentistry, optometry, pediatrics and psychology.
During the activity, the men and women who accompany the crossing carried out recreational activities aimed at the little ones, they in the same way distributed medicines, 700 oral health kits, 851 items of clothing, 379 toys and more than 800 kilograms of Bienestarina (food supplement) powder donated by the ICBF, in order to supplement the diet of children under 10 years. At the end of the activity, teaching talks were given for children and adolescents, emphasizing the promotion of sports and the use of free time, thus preventing the consumption of alcohol and psychoactive substances.
On September 29, the humanitarian campaign will reach the municipality of El Carmen del Darién - department of Chocó, continuing its journey to Vigía del Fuerte - Antioquia and finally it will reach the village of Bellavista in the municipality of Bojayá in the department of Chocó, on October 2.
The Colombian Navy continues to coordinate efforts to positively impact the most remote communities of the Colombian geography, generating safe environments that led closer ties of partnership with the inhabitants. In the same way, it ratifies its commitment to continue working for human security and the construction of a better country.
