Multinational and Observer Force (MFO) is an international peacekeeping organization, created by the agreement conducted by the Arab Republic of Egypt and the State of Israel to maintain peace in Sinai and prevent any violation of its terms.
The Director General, Elizabeth Dibble, is visiting Colombia for the first time with the purpose of updating the general situation of the country's participation in the MFO.
Colombia has been collaborating with the MFO since 1982, as it works for the Peace Treaty with through the work of the Colombia Battalion No.3 and the participation to date of 275 members of the Military Forces.
It is expected that the next contingent that will arrive in Sinai will be made up of men and women, following public policies of gender equality.
The Deputy Minister for Defense and Security Policies, Alberto Lara Lozada, together with the Deputy Minister of Multilateral Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Laura Gil, met with the Director General of the Multilateral Peacekeeping Force and Observers (MFO), Elizabeth Dibble, with the aim of increasing procedural standards in peace operations, giving continuity to the sending of units to Sinai.
The meeting addressed the current security situation in this region of the Middle East, the state of the operations of the MFO, relations conducted by the nations that are part of the treaty, among others.
The MFO is an independent international organization created by agreement by the Arab Republic of Egypt and the State of Israel with the aim of observing, verifying and reporting possible violations of the Peace Treaty, facilitating military dialogue conducted by the two countries, building trust, improving transparency and supporting lasting peace in the Sinai Peninsula, Egypt.
Since 1982 and to date, the Colombia Battalion No.3 with the support and coordination of military Units, conducts stability tasks in the region. For the National Army, participation in the MFO represents the strengthening of operational experiences, thus increasing procedural standards in peace operations, which is why it is important to give continuity to the sending of personnel.
The selection process for the relief No. 121 of the Colombia Battalion is currently underway, with which the number of units is expected to be completed in December 2023.
For this relief, the Ministry of Defense has worked under the guidelines of the Government framed in the National Public Policy of Gender Equity so that a greater number of women have participation in this international process.
