Positive report at the closing of Gender Week at the Ministry of Defense: Members of the Military Forces now have new resources, tools and skills to carry out their work.
The Minister of Defense will seek to institutionalize the annual commemoration of Gender Week within the security and defense sector.
In the framework of the closing of the Gender Week of the Ministry of Defense, the Deputy Minister for Defense and Security Policies, Alberto Lara, spoke about the need for all members of the Military Forces to be leaders of the transformation in society for the benefit of women's care.
For the deputy minister, it is clear that every member of the forces must respect and protect women, “each of the military forces must commit ourselves so that the men and women in police on the streets, as well as the soldier in the field, are aware of the need to respect and protect women, within the framework of their instructions.”
For her part, the Director of Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law of the Ministry of Defense, Diana Sánchez revealed in the middle of the Dialogue on Gender Equity that efforts are being concentrated to continue commemorating Gender Week at the national level within the security and defense sector.
For Lieutenant Colonel William Bernal, Deputy Commissioner for Human Rights of the National Police and assistant to the closing of the Gender Week of the Minister of Defense, the event was of great relevance for members of the Military Forces. “We want to thank this Gender Week, all of us who have been part of this event are leaving with some knowledge, with some resources, with some tools and with some skills that will undoubtedly led us to conduct and carry out our work better,” the high official warned.
Finally, Deputy Minister Lara called for the implementation of strategies that result in the protection of women: “It is necessary to take the time to have documents, to have reflections on papers, even to have directives, to have agreements, to really transform culture and behavior (...) My call at this closure is that we take to the street and field levels, all this policy and all this purpose of protection and respect for women.”
