The rapid construction bridges, donated by the U.S. Southern Command, will aim to provide support to the most vulnerable communities in emergencies.
The Ministry of Defense, through Colombian National Army Engineers Command, will lead the installation, adaptation and maintenance of ten provisional bridges, which will be donated by the Southern Command of the United States, it was announced through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding by the Southern Command and the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD).
These bridges are intended to strengthen Colombia's capacity to have rapidly deployable bridges and thus reduce the risk of communities that may be hit by natural events.
As established in the memorandum, the members of the National Committee for Disaster Management, as is the case of Colombian National Army, will support the UNGRD, providing logistical assistance and essential response services, which will strengthen the Immediate Reaction System.
