After the report of forest fire reported in rural area of the municipalities of Purificación and Prado, in the department of Tolima, the emergency call was attended by air by the Colombian Aerospace Force, through the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management, an effort that made possible to put an end to the conflagration.
For two days, crews of the Bell-212 and Huey-II helicopters of the Air Combat Command No.4, spread 3,420 gallons of water over the flames, mixed with 21 gallons of retardant liquid, thus supporting the ground operation carried out by the Fire Department, Civil Defense and the Colombian Red Cross.
Since this type of environmental emergencies occur in places that are difficult to access by land, it is essential to use the Bambi Bucket system, which suspended from a helicopter in flight, has the capacity to store and transport large amounts of water, from nearby water sources to the places where conflagrations occur.
The preparation of the men and women of the Colombian Aerospace Force to provide support for this type of environmental emergencies is constant, which ratifies the commitment regarding the right to both human life and animal life, product of the joint work with other agencies responsible for risk and disaster management for the benefit of the environment.
