The reorganization encompasses key changes to the Military's Joint Forces Commands and to Task Forces Omega, Hercules and Vulcano.
The collaboration between the Army, the Air Force and the National Navy is constant and is strengthened both at the strategic level and the military operation.
By means of this decision, the commanders of each branch resume direct command of the units that were under the Joint Commands.
At a press meeting, the Minister of National Defense, Iván Velásquez Gómez, accompanied by the military and Police commanders, explained the details of the new organization of the Joint Commands in the Military Forces.
"The joint commands will continue, but now specialized in strategic planning and analysis tasks in the territories where they operate. The direct operations will fall to the commanders of each branch, while the Joint Commands will be under the direction of the General Commander of the Military Forces,” Minister Velásquez declared.
Through this reorganization, the responsibilities of military operations will be assumed directly by the commanders of the branches, who, through their divisions, naval forces and Air Combat commands, will lead the operations to optimize the efficiency and effectiveness of military operations.
As for the Task Forces, they will now report directly to Colombian National Army Command. The river units of the Colombian Navy and the air assets of the Colombian Air Force will maintain mutual support in their respective areas of operation, under the hierarchy of their respective forces.
"This new synergy of the military operation is contemplated in the update of the Ayacucho PLUS Joint Strategic Campaign Plan, and it is of strict compliance and constant supervision," said the general commander of the Military Forces, Admiral Francisco Cubides.
The minister in the same way announced a change in the Rapid Deployment Forces (FUDRA), which will now go from 9 to 12 units. These forces will have specific objectives and a greater territorial presence, with greater mobility and reaction capacity to face threats.
Finally, Minister Velásquez emphasized that these changes do not weaken the Military Forces or imply the disappearance of units or the reduction of personnel. On the contrary, they strengthen the joint strategy to combat criminal groups operating in the country.
