The Fifth Division of Colombian National Army, within the framework of the Ayacucho Plan and with the objective of working to increase the control of the territory, the protection of the inhabitants and the fight against illicit activities, has obtained solid results during the first half of the year. These achievements have been key to reduce anxiety and fear among the inhabitants of the departments of Caldas, Risaralda, Quind铆o, Huila, Tolima, Cundinamarca and Boyac谩.
In the frontal fight against illicit activities, 35 people have been arrested for crimes related to drug trafficking, more than 14 000 kilos of narcotics have been found, including marijuana, coca paste and cocaine hydrochloride, 3,193 gallons of liquid supplies and 1,042 kilos of solid supplies used for the manufacture of drugs.
Regarding the residual organized armed groups, the troops have reported 52 voluntary surrenders, the arrest of 63 members of these structures and had given 32 individuals to justice. In addition, 39 minors have been recovered and 8 individuals have died in military operations.
As for common crime and organized criminal groups, 1,515 arrests have been made for various crimes and 8 criminal groups that were striking at the tranquility and security of communities have been dismantled.
These operations have in the same way resulted in the finding of 241 long- and short-range firearms, more than 11,609 ammunition of various calibers, as well as communications equipment, computers and military accessories material, among others.
In terms of environmental protection and the fight against the illegal exploitation of mining sites, the operations have led to the arrest of 97 people for this crime. In addition, engines, motor pumps, dredgers, backhoes and various chemicals used in the extraction of gold and coal have been found.
