The planting contributes to the reforestation of the paramo, preservation of the environment and the water resource of the region.
Within the framework of the Institutional Plan Amazonia, soldiers of the Infantry Battalion N° 13 General Custodio García Rovira, attached to the Thirtieth Brigade, in a coordinated work with the mayor's office of Mutiscua and the community, carried out the planting of 400 frailejones in the village of La Colorada, municipality of Mutiscua, Department of Norte de Santander.
The seeds were sown in the nursery, at the Cerro Oriente Military Base, where the soldiers take care and quietly monitor the growth process until they reach the conditions to be taken to their environment, where they become the main source of water.
This is how all the necessary means were sent, people organized themselves, and in a coordinated work with Colombian National Army, the mayor's office of Mutiscua and environmental leaders, the activity began.
The soldiers were in charge of taking them from the nursery to the Santurbán paramo, at the La Caldera and Concepción villages, in Mutiscua, where the hands of those who had prepared the land and arrange the land to plant the new inhabitants and embellish the landscape were waiting for them.
In this way, the army, people and institutions working for the defense and protection of the environment return to nature this specimen that has been hit by climate changes.
