At the national level, more than 230,000 men and women of the National Army will strengthen their knowledge of roles, missions and prohibitions in front of the elections.
The National Army, in fulfilling its mission in democratic activities that will be carried out during the year, and in response to the responsibility that this represents, through the Comprehensive Legal Department designed and implemented a pedagogical campaign that instructs on the legal-operational recommendations that military personnel should take into account before, during and after the elections.
Based on the concept of Unified operation for the coordination of roles and missions of each institution, we have included issues of doctrine and prevention for decision making in the framework of the law, and through the use of different communication tools to reach even the farthest soldier in the area of operations.
These trainings based on Colombian legislation, such as Law 599/2000 and Law 906/2004, as well as the Military Disciplinary Regime in force, Law 1862/2017, strengthen compliance with the law, reiterating compliance with the normative framework of international human rights law, the legal restrictions of the Military Forces, such as the banning of exercising suffrage during any of the phases of the electoral process, nor intervene in the activities or debates of political parties or movements, which would make them to fall in disciplinary and criminal sanctions.
The implementation of this pedagogy represents a commitment to civilians, since it provides guarantees for the use and enjoyment of the rights of Colombians. In this way, the National Army works tirelessly to protect the pillars of Colombian democracy, ensuring institutional legitimacy and transparency to maintain constitutional order.
