During the Public Hearing on the Implementation of Peace Agreements, the Secretary of the Council of the Ministry of Defense, Alexandra González, reported on the increase in police personnel to protect the former Territorial Spaces of instruction and Reintegration (ETCR).
In line with the agenda of the Government of Change, the Police Unit for Peace Building (UNIPEP) has experienced a 210% increase in its staff.
The national Government, in collaboration with State institutions, is focusing on implementing the 2016 Peace Agreement.
In a speech at the Public Hearing on the implementation of the Peace Agreements at the National Capitol, the Secretary of the Council of the Ministry of Defense, Alexandra González, highlighted the progress and concrete actions taken to work to raise the security of peace signatories and social leaders throughout the country.
“The Security and Defense Policy, Commitments for Life and Peace establishes as a commitment of the Defense Sector to join efforts and strengthen the elite corps, the Police Unit for Peace Building, UNIPEP, the Joint Strategic Command for the Transition of the Military Forces, CCOET, and in the same way the human rights commissioner of the National Police, which has been being fulfilled by the entire sector,” Secretary González highlighted.
She in the same way mentioned the active collaboration with the Ministry of the Interior, the Agency for Reintegration and the National Protection Unit to strengthen security in the territories.
As for the concrete operations, González reported on the implementation of the Ayacucho Joint Strategic Campaign Plan 2023-2026 by the Military Forces, which includes the assignment of more than 1,300 soldiers and the deployment of 800 members of the National Police to protect the former territorial spaces.
He highlighted the increase in UNIPEP personnel by 210%, from 70 to 147 personnel, as well as the strengthening of the basic carabinieri units with an increase of 167%. In addition, 37 territorial groups for peace and 17 UNIPEP single focus groups have been created, which has improved the capacity for reaction and accompaniment in the Territories.
