The project started in the education centers and it is estimated that the drinking water production plants will be operational in the month of December.
Thanks to the Water for Education, Education for Water program, led by the EPM Foundation, in a coordinated work with the Colombian Navy, more than 5 thousand inhabitants of the municipalities of Coveñas, Toluviejo and San Antonio de Palmito of the department of Sucre, will benefit of the construction of plants for the treatment of drinking water.
Crew members of the Navy Infantry Brigade No.1 arrived at the Carlos Arturo Verbel Vergara Agricultural Technical School, El Martillo Indigenous School and the Pio XII School, to notify them of the beginning of this program in which 2,255 students and teachers, as well as 2,860 people who live in the surroundings of the educational centers, will benefit, providing them with access to quality drinking water in the coming months.
"The daily student activities are often interrupted because there was no drinking water service or there was no water supply in the school store. Now, in a few months, students will be able to have access to drinking water, which will improve their well-being and prevent them from being absent due to lack of water, making them more productive. I thank the Colombian Navy and the EPM Foundation for this aid that will reach these vulnerable areas of the country" said Luis Urbano Olmos Barrera, director of the Carlos Arturo Verbel Vergara Agricultural School.
The coordinated work conducted by the Colombian Navy, through the Navy Infantry Brigade No.1 and the EPM Foundation, generates a positive and lasting impact on communities, promoting strategies to improve the quality of life of the inhabitants of the region, facilitating access to essential resources such as drinking water.
