Eight people, members of the Carlos Patiño and Segunda Marquetalia structures have voluntarily surrendered at different points in the department of Cauca and in Nariño; this in view of the operation that is constant in this area of the country. Among these individuals were three minors recovered of the ranks of these subversive groups.
The military deployment by air and land that is constant by the soldiers of Colombian National Army in the south of the department of Cauca and especially in the municipality of Argelia that hits the residual structures that commit crimes in the area.
After carrying out bombing operations onn mined areas, in less than 48 hours, eight members of the Carlos Patiño and Segunda Marquetalia residual structures have surrendered to justice. According to their accounts, they said that the reinforcement of the military operation is one of the reasons to return to legality.
In the first operation and through a checkpoint, two minors, members of this armed group who were fleeing of the village of Sinai, in Argelia, were recovered. Both 15-year-olds were part of the gang commanded by alias Kevin, the ringleader who commits crimes in the villages of El Mango, El Plateado and San Juan de Micay in this municipality.
The minors were guarded by the troops and extracted by air to protect their safety.
In the same way, and due to operations to neutralize a terrorist operation in the village of Pandiguando, in the municipality of El Tambo, the soldiers deployed their resources to provide support in the call for help of a man, who received several shots due to fleeing from the illegal armed group Carlos Patiño. After the coordination to get him out of the sector, the troops provided him with first aid and he was able to reunite with his relatives.
Another case of surrender to justice was in the same way reported in Popayan. After staying three years inside the group of alias Jaider, ringleader of the Carlos Patiño residual structure, a man went to the Army soldiers to voluntarily surrender, stating to have been in this group as a guerrilla fighter during that time.
On the other hand, in the department of Nariño, the troops of the 23 Brigade recovered a 15-year-old girl who had been a member of the Carlos Patiño illegal group for 18 months. Her surrender was given in the municipality of Ipiales, given that she would have escaped from this gang using the drug trafficking routes by which narcotics travel from the municipality of Argelia.
Similarly, before the troops carrying out operations in the rural area of Taminango, Nariño, another member of this residual group who had been in their ranks for three years in the same way surrendered to justice.
Finally, two other individuals, members of the illegal Segunda Marquetalia group, surrendered to the soldiers, expressing their intentions to leave this armed structure and take advantage of the national Government's individual surrender program.
In these events, long weapons such as rifles, ammunition magazines of different calibres have been found, elements that were put into custody of the corresponding authorities.
With the integration of the resources of Colombian National Army, these people were removed of the area, protecting their lives in compliance with institutional policies of respect for human rights and the norms of international humanitarian law.
