During the procedure an individual was arrested.
In the place, 800 red mangrove slats were found by troops that would be used for the production of coal.
Within the framework of a coordinated operation, conducted by the Colombian Navy, the environmental Police and the Regional Autonomous Corporation of Nariño - CORPONARIÑO, 10 cubic meters of mangrove were found by troops at an illegal collection point in Tumaco – Nariño.
Troops of the Navy Infantry River Battalion No.40 accompanied by the environmental authorities, attended the call of the community, who reported on the indiscriminate logging of timber specimens, in a wooded area of the Ciudadela sector in Tumaco.
At the site, 800 slats of red mangrove were found by troops that, apparently, would be used for the production of coal, a process that would cause damage to the environment and to the health of the inhabitants of the sector, because of air pollution.
An individual was arrested in flagrante delicto, who was put into custody of the authorities for prosecution.
It is important to mention that the logging of mangroves without any type of permit granted by the environmental authority is illegal and generates a negative and irreparable impact on the ecosystem, harming the numerous specimens of wildlife that inhabit the mangroves.
