In a decisive effort to break the drug trafficking chain and protect the security of communities in the Colombian South Pacific, the Colombian Navy found and destroyed 50 constructions used for the production of cocaine hydrochloride and coca paste base. The operations were conducted by Navy Infantry Brigade No. 4, in the municipalities of El Charco, Francisco Pizarro, Iscuandé, Mosquera, Olaya Herrera, Santa Bárbara and Tumaco in the department of Nariño.
This blow to drug trafficking impacted on the production and distribution of illicit substances in the region, weakening local criminal structures with the finding of 14.3 kilograms of coca base, more than 2,200 gallons of liquid precursors and approximately 2,000 kilograms of solid precursors, which would be used in laboratories for the manufacture of narcotics.
Simultaneously, the navy units found seven boats used by the illegal groups to transport supplies for the production of narcotics. The immobilization of these ships significantly limits the means of transport and logistics used by drug traffickers in the region.
Finally, in the framework of the military operation aimed at weakening the resources of the threat, eight members of the Residual Organized Armed Groups that commit crimes in the Colombian Pacific were arrested, as well as other five people for common crimes. During these operations, 10 firearms and 132 ammunition of different calibers were found by troops, decreasing the resources of military operations of the criminal structures. The individuals and the material were put into custody of the Attorney General's Office.
