"I have said it repeatedly: no one can work to raise the dignity of another if he does not have his own. The men and women of the Military Forces have a very great duty and responsibility to Colombian society, to the peasants and inhabitants of the big cities, and that is to work for their safety and dignity,” said Minister Velásquez.
This event in the same way included the participation of more than 50 regular soldiers and 30 police assistants, who, together with a group of veterans of the Military Forces and their families, heard from President Petro and the head of the Ministry of Defense about the benefits and Wellbeing alliances that the Government has signed as a thank you for the operation of every man and woman who works for the defense and security of every citizen.
"We are convinced, without any doubt, that the commitment, enthusiasm, sense of belonging, love for the institution and for the service that every man and woman will demonstrate in their daily work will increase and will led a new relationship with urban and rural communities, so that it is closer, kinder, more protective, fully respectful of the fundamental rights of all the inhabitants of the national territory,” the Minister highlighted.
Velásquez reported that, to date, about 85,500 young people who serve their military service in the Military Forces and the National Police receive $650,000 per month, and that thanks to Law 2384 of 2024 in six months, that is, in January 2025, this income will amount to $910,000 and maximum in July 2026, it will reach up to a legal minimum wage.
"Law 2384 of 2024 is designed to create better conditions for those young people who serve the country, who leave their families and face greater responsibilities for the society. These better economic conditions are reflected in the families of the soldiers, who, for the most part, are the recipients of the money that he receives during the military service,” he informed.
Finally, Minister Velásquez highlighted that, thanks to Legislative Act 01 of 2024, thousands of veterans and their families will receive the 14th payment in the year, which aims to raise sufficient economic resources and strengthen the well-being of all active and retired men and women
“This is a month payment that benefits more than 244 thousand veterans and their families, because the right to retirement pension is part of the livelihood of the families of those who served the country in the Military and National Police Forces,” the minister said.
