The Colombian Navy found and destroyed four Improvised Explosive Devices –IEDs, anti-personnel mine type, that had been planted in the Lower Calima region, rural area of the District of Buenaventura, putting at risk the life and good physical condition of the community.
The timely information provided by the people led the troops of the Navy Infantry Battalion No.21 and of the Explosives and Demining Company No.2 to arrive at the La Brea sector, in the Bajo Calima, where after checking with a trained anti-explosive dog 150 meters from a road, four anti-personnel mines were planted, handcrafted in PVC with a silicone cover.
These four devices contained about a kilogram and a half of anfo-type explosives inside, which, if detonated, would have reached a destruction range of three meters around. Expert personnel of the Colombian Navy carried out the controlled destruction of the mines in the place where they were found by troops.
The Naval Institution reminds people that, in case they find any strange element that has been planted by illegal groups near their homes, or in rural areas, they should keep their distance and immediately notify the authorities.
