The Air Combat Command No. 4 of the Colombian Air Force, deployed its resources to fight a voracious forest fire in the municipality of Cunday, Tolima, thanks to the use of a Huey II helicopter, with the Bambi Bucket system and personnel trained in this type of special operations.
In approximately 3 hours of flight, it was possible to drop from the air more than 2700 gallons of water and 7 of retardant liquid, in a direct rain on the flames that hit the municipality of Tolima, in a direct coordination with the relief agencies on the ground.
The military operations airlift was crucial, since it was a difficult-to-access area, where the synergy with the National Disaster Risk Management Unit, the National Personnel Recovery Center, the Red Cross, Civil Defense, Colombian National Army, the National Police and the National Fire Department was successful.
The Colombian Air Force reiterates its commitment to safeguard the life and natural resources of the Nation, as it has been done since August 17, 2024, to support relief agencies in the different struggles in the departments of Tolima and Huila.
