The Colombian Navy, in coordination with State institutions and different foundations, carried out a Development Support Activity in which specialized medical assistance, distribution of medicines and donations were provided to 1,500 people of the villages of Arusí, Coquí, Joví, Jurubirá, Panguí and Termales, as well as to the indigenous communities of Guadual, Jagua, Jurubirá, La Loma, Playita, Puerto Indio and Yucal, in the department of Chocó.
For this activity, the Naval Institution sent the ARC ship Bahía Solano and a Coast Guard Rapid Reaction Unit – URR, to transport the volunteers and military personnel, who for five days provided care in general medicine, physiotherapy, gynecology, dentistry, psychology and vaccination, contributing to the well-being and quality of life of the inhabitants in this region of the country. In this space, recreational activities were in the same way carried out, humanitarian aid and liquid food supplement distribution to families.
In the same way, the Colombian Navy accompanied the evacuation of nine people who required maxillofacial surgical intervention due to the complexity of their conditions.
This Development Support Activity was led by the Bahia Solano Coast Guard Station of the Pacific Naval Force and was carried out thanks to the support of institutions such as: Satena Airline, El Colombiano Newspaper, Colombian Institute of Family Wellbeing – ICBF, Termales School, Caballito de Mar Foundation and the University Center for Health Studies - CES.
The Colombian Navy will continue to carry out initiatives coordinated with government institutions and foundations, with the purpose of rebuilding the social fabric of the communities in the Colombian Pacific.
