“Thanks to the maneuver they carried out, we are here safe and sound... remember that communications equipment is essential to work for survival at sea,” said two of the rescued fishermen.
The Colombian Navy, during a search and rescue operation, safeguarded the lives of five fishermen who were adrift in Colombian waters, near the island of San Andrés, since the rudimentary boat in which they were carrying out a fishing task had failures in one of the batteries.
The operation began when an emergency call was received of the boat's crew informing them of the situation they were in. Immediately, a Rapid Reaction Unit of the Coast Guard Station of San Andrés was deployed, which arrived at the point referenced by the fishermen, approximately 48 kilometers from San Andrés, in the Cayo Bolívar fishing area.
Once the boat was found, the health status of the crew members was verified, who were taken to the low waters of Cayo Bolívar, where the boat anchored to solve the situation safely. The fishermen claimed to have had a problem with one of the batteries of their steering system, so they were adrift for about four days.
