Two boats collided in the El Coco sector causing a serious emergency.
In a fast and effective search and rescue operation, the Colombian Navy, through the Navy Infantry River Battalion No. 50, attended an incident in the El Coco sector, on the Guaviare River. The collision between two boats put at risk the lives of 33 people who were rescued by the navy men in the shipwreck.
The action was reported by local people, who informed on the collision between the ship named Mi Sofy, which was traveling on the Morganito – Inírida river route, and the ship El Palomo, which was traveling from Inírida to San Fernando de Atabapo - Venezuela.
Immediately, the units of the Colombian Navy moved to the place to provide support in the emergency, and conducted the rescue of 32 Venezuelans and one Colombian, including 13 adults and four minors of the boat Mi Sofy, as well as six women and ten men of the boat El Palomo, which had capsized.
During the rescue, Colombian Navy nurses provided medical assistance to two people with possible injuries, managing the evacuation of a man with severe pain in his right leg and a woman with discomfort in her left shoulder.
Thanks to the timely intervention of the Orinoquía Naval Force, it was possible to bring all the occupants to safety and recover the belongings that were floating in the area of the accident.
The Colombian Navy reiterates its commitment to the safety and well-being of the communities and those who transit the rivers of eastern Colombia.
