As part of a search and rescue operation, the Colombian Navy safeguarded the life of a Colombian man who was adrift, 25 nautical miles (46 kilometers) west of the island of Providencia, because the sailboat he was traveling on had failures in the propulsion system.
After the emergency call received by the Navy VHF channel 16, the Specific Command of San Andrés and Providencia through the Coast Guard Station, immediately deployed a Rapid Reaction Unit to the referenced point; there, the boat was inspected and the crewman was brought to safety, who apparently was heading towards Santa Marta - Magdalena from Tampa, Florida - United States.
After verifying his health condition, the crew member was taken to the anchorage area on the island of Providencia, in order to carry out the revision and subsequent repair of his boat.
