Soldiers of Colombian National Army, in a coordinated work with the Attorney General's Office, have found two illegal refineries, three rudimentary petroleum pools and two illicit valves, where the individuals kept the petroleum stolen from the Caño Limón-Coveñas pipeline, in the rural area of the municipality of Tibú, Department of Norte de Santander.
In the first operation, the soldiers reached the village of Campo Seis, where there were two illegal refineries and two oil pools, which had the capacity to steal, process and store more than 15,000 gallons of petroleum. It is noteworthy that in these places, illegally, after stealing the petroleum, it was processed into rudimentary fuel known as pategrillo, which is used in the production of cocaine.
In the second operation, the military found two illicit valves connected to the North Station transfer line, and one more oil pool, where more than 20,000 gallons of the stolen fuel were stored.
After the area was secured, a team of professionals of the private company were sent to conduct the repair and disabling procedures. The environmental damage in these areas is devastating and the recovery of ecosystems could take hundreds of years.
