With an opening event that took place at the Port Society of Cartagena, the 14th edition of the binational mission Continuing Promise 2024 began, an initiative led by the Naval Forces of the Southern Command of the United States that this time has arrived in Colombia as part of a route that includes Costa Rica, Jamaica, Honduras and Panama.
During this edition, the mission of the health professionals embarked on the campaign will be to work together with Colombian medical and military personnel, with the aim of improving their preparedness, as well as strengthening the alliances and combined resources of the Colombian and United States Navies, seeking greater effectiveness when providing support in humanitarian, public health and disaster crises.
Among the resources that this humanitarian mission brings is the Seabees, a unit of the United States Navy specialized in civil engineering and construction works, which will support different previously selected projects in Cartagena. In the same way, experts of the US Navy will organize conferences and training exercises with Colombian civil and military officials on disaster preparedness and response. In addition, the Women, Peace and Security (WPS for its acronym in English) conferences will continue, an initiative that seeks to prevent gender-based violence through female empowerment.
"Continuing Promise 2024 is the ideal environment to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and cooperation conducted by the United States and Colombia, starting from support for local people, with the main objective of improving interoperability and comprehensive security in the Caribbean region,” said Rear Admiral Carlos Hernando Oramas, Commander in charge of the Caribbean Naval Force.
The coordinated work of more than 30 public and private institutions will make possible this initiative, which will in the same way include donations of food, medicines, instructions on various health, legal issues, and access to State services.
